Michael Reiley - Merging cricket songs (Scopello)

from Sounds from Italy, Volume 2 by Cities and Memory

/

about

Crickets in Scopello, Sicily reimagined by Michael Reiley.

"The piece started with the high pitch din of the night-time crickets. After all my work with Echozoo reimaging the sounds of extinct animals I got very inspired by imagining and interpreting what is it that animals hear. How is their interior soundscape different that what humans hear? With this piece I was exploring the resonance of what does a field of crickets sound like to the crickets themselves. Is it soothing, peaceful, or agitating? The result of this piece is a meditation on that point of merging of our human-centric sound of the field of crickets and the crickets' perspective on their own song."
