Karst - The halo of sound (Lake District, England)

from The Chimes by Cities and Memory

/

about

Cartmel Priory bells reimagined by Karst.

"When I made the field recording I was particularly inspired by the halo of sound that hovers over the bells and the priory, there's an incredible energy in the sound that I wanted to try and capture. Having said that, the real and processed versions are pretty different!

"The reimagined version was made from several elements of the field recording combined with an organ drone (unfortunately not a real one) and fragments of a repurposed soundscape I created back in 1996 whilst at Dartington College.

"The repurposed sounds were recorded with DAT and manipulated using a very early version of Pro-Tools. The rest was completed using a Zoom recorder and Logic."
